War, Starvation and disease are a harsh reality for many in the impoverished areas of Uganda. Children in rural areas of Uganda are the most vulnerable — where 1 in 4will die before the age of ten. The average life span in Uganda is 48 years.
'Suubi Clinic – a Project for Life'
Can you imagine holding a dying baby in your arms or watch a mother crying because she cannot look after her children?
Can you imagine walking 10 miles to Hospital whenever you needed treatment?
Can you imagine being in labour and having to have your baby in the field, on the roadside, or in a market?
Can you imagine growing up in a place where there are no toys, no footballs, no sweets and treats?
Can you imagine growing up in a place where you lack the most basic things in life: food, clean water, safety, and a bed of your own?
Can you imagine having to work in the field daily to grow your own food and walk 5 miles to school everyday?
Have you ever seen small children playing, knowing that their parents died and left them with AIDS virus?
Do you ever think that the world is not fair and we need to do something'?
That world and that place do exist and it is where Suubi Medical Clinic is endeavouring to make a difference.
The primary objective of the Suubi Clinic is to improve the health and quality of life for the rural village communities in Busu and the local areas by providing timely disease diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and health education. Suubi Medical Centre concentrates mostly on essential medical, maternal and childcare. The clinic also carries out services like dental and postoperative care through the help of internee doctors and some experienced health workers from the main hospital (Iganga).
Denis Kigongo started Suubi Clinic in response to the desperate situation of the people in Busu. Denis was born and brought up in the village, and as such, saw firsthand that so many children die before their 10th birthday, often of diseases like malaria.
You could make a difference
We always welcome volunteers to help out at the Clinic. There are so many people in need, and the things they need are so basic. It's very easy and rewarding. If you are unable to volunteer, you might consider making a donation to the Suubi Clinic - 100% of the money you donate goes straight to them. There are no costs or expenses made from any support that we receive.
Suubi Medical Clinic is partly sponsored and supported by Real Africa Adventures. For more information please click here.
